Redland coach Phil Carse is confident his new Hampden league quartet will make their mark at NEAFL level as the Bombers look to rebuild in 2019.

Camperdown midfielder Cameron Spence is the latest signing for Redland, after the club previously secured the signatures of Koroit’s Blair McCutcheon, Warrnambool’s Darcy Graham and Camperdown’s Sam Cunnington.

Carse, who spent the past four seasons as Camperdown coach, told the Warrnambool Standard he was pleased with the recruiting drive.

“I think the Vic Country boys can have an impact, they all have a lot of senior footy under their belts so they are ready-made players,” he said.

“I was after guys who are pretty good on the running side of their game and can spread well and have a bit of speed.

“It is a bit of a different style of footy in the NEAFL, guys do move quickly, they’re big fields and you are generally playing in dry, fine weather.”

The recruits certainly bring some experience to the table with Spence acting as an assistant coach under Carse and Cunnington his captain, whilst McCutcheon is a three-time premiership player with Koroit.

However, they are under no illusions of the battle they face adapting to the step up to NEAFL level and resurrecting a Bombers side which fell to the bottom of the ladder in 2018 with just one win.

Spence, who arrived in Queensland on Tuesday, said he was looking forward to challenges that lie ahead.

“I liked the environment (when I visited in December) and all the boys seem like they’re on the right path so I thought I’d come up and give it a crack,” he said.

“I’ve got to push myself to the next level to try and get to that next level in fitness and try and stay there.”

Redland has also added former Southport defender Seb Rogers to their playing list.
