The Canberra Demons have confirmed two-time best-and-fairest winner Jordan Harper has departed the club.

The Demons’ co-captain, 24, will head to Melbourne after signing with VFL club North Melbourne.

Harper debuted at age 16 for Belconnen in the inaugural NEAFL season in 2011, and quickly established himself as one of the competition’s elite.

He joined Canberra as a foundation player in the club’s inaugural NEAFL season in 2016, and finished the season as the club’s first ever best-and-fairest recipient and the NEAFL MVP runner-up.

The NEAFL representative said he will cherish his time in the competition.

“The past two years at the Demons I’ve developed not only as a player but as a person and that’s what I’m most proud of,” he said.

“I’ve learnt a lot about myself along the way and made some life long friendships being apart of this ever-supporting club. I’ve challenged myself at this level and got everything I could out of my ability both on and off the field with my time here.

“I couldn’t thank the Demons enough for what they have done, from everyone to the support staff, players, coaches and families. The opportunity to represent and lead the sole Canberra club in the NEAFL is something I’ll cherish forever.

“The Canberra Demons is not just a football club, it’s much more, a family and place where you leave with much more than what you come with and for that I’ll always be grateful.”

In 2017, Harper – who was the first Canberra product to play 100 NEAFL games – earned his second NEAFL Team of the Year honour and finished in the Top 10 of the NEAFL MVP award voting for the second consecutive season.
