Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong goalkicking machine Riley Corbett has become the latest fresh face from the Riverina to sign with Canberra for the 2019 NEAFL season.

At only 18, Corbett stands at a commanding 196cm and 105kg, and become one of the youngest footballers in history to win the Riverina Football League’s goalkicking award when he booted 70 majors from 14 games last year.

Corbett, a former member of the GIANTS Academy who played five NEAFL games across 2017-2018, said he is looking forward to the challenge of taking his football to the next level.

“I’m pretty keen (to play NEAFL),” he told The Daily Advertiser.

“The last couple of years I played a couple of games (for the Giants) and obviously haven’t played very well so I’m keen to show what I can do at that level.

“I’m pretty excited for it and actually training with the one team during the week and playing for one team on the weekend.”

The Demons has become a destination club for Riverina talent in recent years.

2018 NEAFL Rising Star winner Mitch Maguire, Lucas Meline, Mitch Hardie and Jacob Turner are among the players from the region who have taken their game to new heights with Canberra in the last couple of seasons.

Corbett becomes the second Riverina player to join the club this off-season after Collingullie midfielder Matt Klemke signed last month.

Corbett will move to Canberra on Sunday and begin pre-season with the Demons next week.
