The incredible story of the Aspley Hornets’ rise to the top of NEAFL competition will be showcased on NITV tonight with the premiere of It’s just a Dream.

The documentary, by Neil Film Makers, traces the Hornets’ two-year journey from the bottom of the competition to winning an epic NEAFL Grand Final against Sydney in 2014.

This an unlimited access film that takes you inside a club on a rollercoaster ride through the 2013 and 2014 NEAFL finals series.

The Hornets’ produced a stunning comeback against the Swans, coming from 31 points down early in the last quarter to win by two points with a kick on the siren.

It’s just a Dream producer, Phil Neil, said he was just hoping to capture a good Grand Final, but little did he realise it would be the type of game every kid goes to bed dreaming of playing in.

“It’s a classic story, a David taking on Goliath tale,” he said.

“A local football club taking on the powerhouse of the Sydney Swans – this is the one greatest fairy tale football stories you are ever likely to see.

“It was a see-sawing battle that finishes like it was written for a Hollywood blockbuster, a real heart-stopper, that every kid dreams of being a part of.”

Aspley slumped to second-last in the NEAFL in 2012 before a major shift occurred at the club.

Central to the Hornet’s rise was recruiting AFL Queensland Hall of Famer, John Blair, as senior coach for the 2013 season.

They made the NEAFL Grand Final in Blair’s first season, but suffered a heartbreaking loss to Brisbane.

It was the first of three consecutive NEAFL Grand Final appearances, as the Hornets rose from cellar dwellers to one of the biggest powerhouses in the competition.

It’s just a Dream will premiere on NITV from 9.30pm on Tuesday, April 18.
