Stunning third term sets up big win for Brisbane

The Brisbane Lions remain undefeated ladder leaders in 2019 after securing their tenth straight victory with a 128-point win over Sydney University at Blacktown International Sportspark on Saturday.

The Lions were unstoppable from the first bounce with an unwavering dominance that lead to a superb third term performance, the Lions slamming on an enormous 11 goals to zero to win 25.15 (165) to 5.7 (37).

The Lions got straight down to business with Zac Bailey booting the first goal of the game in the second minute.

It didn’t take the Lions much time at all to showcase why they are the undefeated ladder leaders of 2019 as they slammed on an additional three goals, including an outside 50 from Mitchell Hinge.

But the Students mustered up a response as Tristan Davies, Harry Morrison and Jake Bartholomaues all maximised kicking opportunities to restrict the gap to 22 points at quarter-time.

The Lions showcase of quality football continued into the second term as they booted an additional three goals, and restricted the Students to one to take a 34-point lead into half-time.

Sydney University’s struggle to fight for four quarters throughout the 2019 NEAFL season was ultimately their downfall in the third term as the Lions ran away.

In an unmatched team effort, the Lions left the Students goalless and produced 11 majors of their own, including one on the siren from Jack Payne, meaning the Lions took a 102-point lead into three quarter time.

The Lions class continued into the final term where they piled on five goals to the Students one.

For the Lions, Ben Keays was a standout with 23 disposals, eight tackles, three clearances, two inside 50s and four goals.

Thomas Berry was also outstanding with 26 disposals, 13 tackles, three clearances and five inside 50s.

For the Students, Jake Bartholomaues was impressive with 30 disposals, seven clearances, four inside 50s and one goal.

Heading into the NEAFL Round 13, Sydney University will host the GIANTS under lights at Henson Park at 6:30pm on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Brisbane Lions will take on the Redland Bombers at the Gabba at 11:30am on Sunday.
