NT Thunder forward Nick Yarran has been awarded the Round 12 NEAFL Rising Star nomination after his impressive display against Canberra on Saturday.

The 19-year-old speedster was named among NT Thunder’s best and polled three NEAFL MVP votes after collecting 23 disposals, seven inside 50s and a goal in a comprehensive 91-point victory.

A former player with SANFL club Woodville-West Torrens last year, Yarran returned to the Territory and won the NTFL Rising Star Award for the 2016-17 season.

NT Thunder coach Andrew Hodges said Yarran’s NEAFL Rising Star nomination is reward for his professionalism and hard work this season.

“I think that was the best game he’s played for the footy club. He is a very talented, young player who has come through our state academy,” he said.

“It’s really exciting to see his growth. It’s a result of all the hard work he has done over the years. He is the ultimate professional and he has some really good guys around him to teach him the right habits.

“He wants to come in to training and improve each time, and we can see that in the way he plays.”

The Rising Star is awarded to the most promising young talent in the NEAFL competition.

Nominees must be under the age of 21 and played less than 20 senior games (excluding games as AFL Academy players) at the start of the 2017 season.
