NEAFL Rising Star nominee Tom Green had his dreams realised
on Wednesday night when the GIANTS snapped up the inside midfielder with pick
10 in the NAB AFL National Draft.
The GIANTS matched Carlton’s bid for the young talent to
ensure the Marist College junior wasn’t going anywhere, having spend most of
his teenage years as a member of the GIANTS Academy.
GIANTS National Recruiting Manager Adrian Caruso told gwsgiants.com.au
the club was ecstatic to secure Green.
“Tom has been a member of the GIANTS Academy for a number of
years, so we are thrilled to officially add him onto our list,” Caruso said.
“As a strongly-built midfielder, size and craft around
stoppage is his asset and we believe that given his determination and character
we had to prioritise bringing him in.
“Tom captained the Allies in 2019 and has shown great
improvement in the last 18 months so we believe that in a full-time environment
he will continue to grow.”
A big-bodied midfielder, Green made his NEAFL debut in 2018
and earned a NEAFL Rising Star nomination in Round 9 this season.
He is an outstanding prospect with clean hands and great
vision and was named in the Under-18 All Australian team this year.
Green joins SUNS trio Connor Budarick, Matt Conroy and Malcolm
Rosas (pre-selections) as NEAFL draftees so far.
The NAB AFL National Draft continues on Thursday night,
followed by the NAB AFL Rookie and Pre-Season Drafts on Friday.
