Rd 11 NEAFL Rising Star Nominee: Harry Grant

The GIANTS have produced a club record three NEAFL Rising Star nominees in a single season after academy member Harry Grant was the latest to showcase his potential in their victory over Redland on Saturday.

The 18-year-old midfielder was terrific in the GIANTS’ 10-point victory, where he collected 27 disposals (14 contested), three tackles and three clearances.

Hailing from Canberra, the Queanbeyan Tigers product represented the GIANTS in the recent NAB League, and has put the disappointment of missing out on Allies selection behind him to string together consistent performances at NEAFL level.

In the past four weeks, Grant has averaged 20 disposals per game and impressed with his footy IQ and work ethic, particularly around the contest.

Nicknamed ‘noisy’, Grant possesses leadership qualities and is extremely fit. He has the ability to play as a utility but has found form as an inside midfielder in recent weeks.

Grant made his NEAFL debut last year as a 17-year-old for the GIANTS, and was playing only his seventh match at this level on Saturday.

He is the third GIANTS player to be nominated for the award this season after James Peatling and Tom Green. The club has broken its record from 2018 when they produced two nominees (Peatling and current Canberra player Riley Budd).

The NEAFL Rising Star is awarded to the most promising young talent in the NEAFL competition.

Nominees must be under the age of 21 and played less than 20 senior games (excluding games as AFL club academy players) at the start of the 2019 season.
