Clubs with a Bye
A super performance from George Horlin-Smith guided Gold
Coast to 56-point victory against finals-bound GIANTS at Metricon Stadium in
the SUNS last game of the 2019 season.
Five goals to two in the first term had the visitors on the
back foot as the SUNS ensured they would bow out winners, 14.13 (97) to 6.5
(41).
The margin grew beyond 30 midway through the second term
when academy member Lachlan McDonald added further pain to the GIANTS with his
first goal of the game.
The visitors struggle to contain their opposition and couldn’t
make any inroads in the second half, as Gold Coast added a further six goals to
three.
Horlin-Smith was dominant with 38 disposals, eight
clearances and six inside 50s to regularly set up play for the SUNS.
Josh Corbett booted three goals and Sam Fletcher was also
prominent with 31 disposals and six inside 50s.
The GIANTS had plenty of good contirbutors themselves but
couldn’t generate any momentum on the scoreboard to combat Gold Coast’s fast
start.
Jackson Hately collected 31 disposals, a massive 15 tackles
and three rebound 50s, while Tom Sheridan had 26 disposals, five clearances and
a goal.
The SUNS climbed one rung on the ladder to finish in seventh spot, just four points outside the top six.
The GIANTS will take on Aspley in an Elimination Final at Voxson Oval next week.
