Clubs with a Bye
Southport midfielder Tyler Roos has closed the gap between NEAFL MVP leader James Rowbottom to just two votes in the penultimate round before voting is withheld from the public.
Roos, who collected 37 disposals in the Sharks loss to Gold Coast, picked up three votes to inch closer to Rowbottom, who didn’t poll due to Sydney having the bye.
Three-time winner Matthew Payne has moved from 10th to fourth after earning another eight votes in the Hornets win over Sydney University. The 33-year-old is now only seven votes shy of top spot.
All three matches this week saw players earn maximum votes. Zac Langdon (GIANTS), James Ives (Aspley) and Michael Rischitelli (Gold Coast) were all rewarded for their dominant performances in their side’s respective victories.
Students midfielder Jake Bartholomaues is a new entrant to the top 10 after earning five votes against the Hornets.
The NEAFL Most Valuable Player Award is presented to the player uniquely judged the best in the competition by a combination of umpire and coaches votes.
The votes are submitted post-game cast on a 5-4-3-2-1 basis. As such, the maximum amount of votes a single player can earn per match is 10 – courtesy of the maximum five votes from both umpires and coaches.
The progress of the MVP voting is published on the NEAFL website for the first 12 rounds of the season, but withheld from that point on until the winner is revealed at the end of season awards night.
